Solving friendship problems

Next Tuesday, March 4, Fifth Grade students will put on the third Community Celebration for the rest of Love Hall. Based on the concepts presented in the Second Step curriculum, the assembly will feature skits by Mrs. Allen’s students about how to make friends and skits by Mrs. Villasana’s students about how to solve friendship problems. A music video from the Fifth Grade Second Step lessons will be shown; the video explains how to use “STEP” to solve a problem:

S: Say the problem
T: Think of solutions
E: Explore the consequences (What would happen if…?)
P: Pick a solution and make a plan

To prepare for the Community Celebration, Pre-First students have discussed how to solve problems with friends (and siblings, cousins, peers, etc.). From walking away to apologizing to talking through the situation, our little Wildcats are pretty wise! See some of their work below.

"You can talk it out!"

“You can talk it out!”

"Just stay away from them."

“Just stay away from them.”

"Say 'Can you please stop. That hurt my feelings.'"

“Say ‘Can you please stop. That hurt my feelings.'”

"Talk to them and figure out why they did it." (Lila was remembering a time when someone cut in front of her in line on the playground.)
